Unique” Malatya“ apricots grow in the Eastern part of Turkey, mainly in Malatya province. Hundreds of apricot cultivars are grown around the globe but what makes Malatya apricots so special ? Its distinct characteristics allow it to be sundried and pitted without cutting the fruit in half. Therefore it is the only cultivar that can be called “whole pitted” and although it sounds unbelievable apricots are pitted by hand, one by one, at time of harvest & drying, a very labor intensive product .

One medium sized dried apricot has approximately 25 calories. Rich in vitamins A and C, potassium, iron, folic acid and dietary fiber, dried apricots can be an excellent snack .

Turkey is by far the world’s largest producer of dried apricots, providing 60 % of the global production and is the number one exporting country accounting for 71 % of the world dried apricot exports.

Malatya apricots have gained E.U. Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) in July 2017, a registration that helps unique products be protected, marketed and advertised.
